Dec 7, 2018 – Benefit for the Religious Life Endowment Fund

Wallen and Phelps, an acoustic folk, blues, and bluegrass trio, will headline a benefit concert in the historic sanctuary at South Elkhorn Christian Church on Friday evening, December 7. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. and will benefit the Religious Life Endowment Fund for a full-time Chaplain at Transylvania University. The trio combines the talents of Indiana musicians Brian and Molly Wallen with Kentucky Disciples minister Dean Phelps. Brian Keith Wallen is a nationally recognized guitarist, twice finishing as a finalist in the International Blues Challenge. Phelps is also an accomplished guitarist, having won both the Indiana and Arkansas state thumbpicking guitar competitions. Molly, Brian, and Dean complement those instrumental skills with delicate vocal harmonies. The program will feature several selections from the group’s recently released Christmas album, Ten More Miles. Recognizing how the college journey shapes the whole student—mind, body, and spirit—Transylvania University is seeking to endow a full-time Chaplain to support the spiritual life of students and to ensure a robust...

Advent Worship at Metamora United Methodist Church

Something wonderful happens whenever I get to play here. It's like the music from decades of worship is in the walls. What a thrill it will be to set up on the chancel of the Metamora United Methodist Church on December 4. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to join Rick and Holly Garrett, a.k.a. Patchwork, Ted Yoder, and Brian Keith Wallen for a Sunday evening concert during Advent. This year, on the second Sunday of Advent, I'll be back in Indiana, and I'll rejoin Rick, Holly, and Brian for a Sunday morning Advent worship service. We'll play some great music and have some great fun. My goodness, I can't wait!...

The promoter contacted me a few days ahead and said, "I've booked an opening act for the show. He's a young guy, but he's pretty good." That's when I first met Brian Keith Wallen. The evening of the concert, as I prepared to play my set, I sat spellbound and maybe a little dumbfounded as I watched Brian move...

Returning to Ziggie’s

Ziggie's is the oldest blues bar in Denver and a really cool place to play. I got turned on to this stellar venue by Brian Keith Wallen. Brian stops at Ziggie's pretty much every time he tours through Colorado. Ziggie's boasts live music 7 days a week, including regular blues jams on Wednesdays and an open mic on Sunday. On Thursday evenings, they typically book solo performers. Last October, I had my first experience playing at Ziggie's, and let me tell you, it was a blast. So I'm looking forward to two shows at Ziggie's this year. I'll be there solo on April 21, 8:00 to midnight. Then Brian Keith Wallen and I will be on a double bill on September 15. There will be a $5 cover both nights.
