I am pleased to announce that I’ll be returning to the Bandshell Stage and the to Wine and Beer Garden Stage for the 2014 Oklahoma State Fair. I had a great time playing at the State Fair last year, and so it’s delightful to be invited back.
The video below was shot during one of last year’s performances on the Wine and Beer Garden Stage. This is a relaxed and intimate setting, although you might not know it from the tempo I chose for Jimmy Wakely’s tune, Telling My Troubles to My Old Guitar. I learned the song from a video of Doc Watson playing in Wayne Henderson’s workshop, and so I had tended to use Doc’s tempo (even though I think I’m a little faster even than that here).
After listening to Jimmy Wakely’s recording of his song, though, I’ve slowed it down a bit, giving it more of a swing blues feel. Faster or slower, however, I hope you enjoy it, and if you plan to visit the Oklahoma State Fair this summer, I hope you’ll be able to take in some of the great music that will be there.
