Going Over Home

My first album release (1997) pays tribute to the music of the Christian faith that I grew up on. Going Over Home gives solid acoustic treatment to traditional hymns, folk ballads and bluegrass gospel songs alike.

Usually limiting myself to Allison Krauss and the Cox Family when it comes to bluegrass gospel and country gospel sort of sounds, I wasn’t really expecting a CD with enough decent tracks that I would stick it on at home for my own enjoyment — but that’s what I got. We added all the tracks, have gotten great positive feedback from our listeners, and I continue to listen to it myself. (Annika Karlsson, Operations Director, Victory Radio)

Going Over Home is out of print on CD and cassette; however, the album can still be purchased as an MP3 download on iTunes. Plans to remix and remaster the tracks ended when the master tapes were damaged in a tragic fire at Sound Investment Recording Studio in Indianapolis. However, I am planning to record some of these songs again for a future CD release.

The album includes country gospel standards, such as Just a Little Talk with Jesus, and early American hymns, such as Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing. The opening track combines Charlie Gearheart’s (Goose Creek Symphony) The Gospel with A.P. Carter’s classic, Will the Circle Be Unbroken, for the opening track. (Since then I’ve started performing The Gospel with a thumb-style arrangement of Albert Brumley’s I’ll Fly Away.
